Remodel Green!

Remodel Right with a Certified Green Professional

Making changes to your home can seem daunting, especially when you are interested in making it more energy efficient or "green."  Looking at all of the possibilities may create more questions than answers.

Don’t fear; there is help out there for you!  A professional remodeler or builder can help cut through the confusion and provide insight and options that will not only bring you savings and satisfaction today, but will help your home’s value far down the road.

To get the best bang for your buck on an energy-efficient remodeling project look for a Certified Green Professional (CGP). These industry professionals are committed to the idea of "greening" the home affordably and are trained in:

  • Choosing products and practices for greater energy efficiency
  • Indoor and outdoor water conservation practices
  • Preserving indoor environmental quality
  • Identifying and choosing sustainable building products
  • Meeting the benchmarks of green building programs

"CGPs have passion for their work.  They price properly and honestly and they are continually being trained to keep up with the latest green building and remodeling trends," said Skip Howes, President of Scott Homes, Ltd and a CGP.

A CGP will not only help you implement products and practices into your home that are energy efficient and earth-friendly, they may also be able to help save you money by alerting you to with federal tax credits available from Uncle Sam.

Tax credits or rebates may be available for a variety of energy efficient improvements for existing homes only,  for such things as:

  • Windows and doors
  • Insulation
  • Roofs (metal and asphalt)
  • HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning)
  • Water heaters (non-solar)
  • Biomass stoves

Tax credits are available at 30 percent of the cost, with no upper limit through 2016 (for existing homes & new construction) for:

  • Geothermal heat pumps
  • Solar panels
  • Solar water heaters
  • Small wind energy systems
  • Fuel cells

More details on qualifying improvements are available on the Energy Star website at www.energystar.gov/taxcredits or at www.nahb.org/efficiencytaxcredit. Also check with your local utility companies, gas, electric and water to see if they have any incentives, rebates or credits available

You don’t have to let a home remodeling project stress you out.  A CGP is there to help you realize your vision both affordably and efficiently, while also creating a beautiful home for you and your family.
